GEMSTONE Marcasite Shield & Pyrite in Agate Drop Necklace
This regal, double stone necklace has a gorgeous marcasite shield at the top with a perched winged skull. A small pyrite in agate teardrop hangs at the bottom. The chain consists of hand-linked 4-in-1 European chainmaille and double faceted cable strands at the top. Length is adjustable from 19-20.75" and the pendant with drop is about 3" tall.
The stone name "marcasite" comes from the Medieval Latin term "marcasita," a derivative of the Arabic word "markaschatsa," meaning "fire stone." This description references marcasite's ability to spark when struck with iron or flint.
Because of pyrite's metallic luster and normally pale brass-yellow hue, it is more well-known by its nickname fool's gold. Its name comes from the Greek pyritēs lithos which means "stone or mineral which strikes fire," because in ancient times it was discovered it could create sparks when struck against steel.
*Please note: the color of the stone may be slightly different in person due to photography/computer monitor/device screen color discrepancies.
